Tory, Labour &  Lib Dem leaders on Slough Borough Council issued a joint statement during a full Council meeting on 15 May:

“As we are here together at Full Council, we are united in sending a message of hope and peace.

“Slough is home to many people with proud heritages, including many with close links to India and Pakistan. Our borough is connected to the vibrant history and culture of both countries.

“We hope and pray for a peaceful resolution in Kashmir. We strongly condemn the loss of innocent lives and send our deepest sympathy to all those who have lost loved ones. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the situation, both close to home and afar.

“We hope dialogue and compassion will resolve the current situation in Kashmir and lead to a peaceful way forward.

“We also recognise there are many other places where conflict is happening in our world today, many which also have connections to our borough. We add our compassion and hope for peace to all around the world.

“In these turbulent times, we stand in unity and will not let international conflicts divide us locally. In Slough, we have proud tradition of standing side-by-side and respecting our differences while gaining strength from all we have in common.”
