Cllr Frank O'Kelly took action to get toxic waste cleared

Slough Observer reported online (16 June) & as the main front-page story in the print edition (19 June) how Lib Dem Councillor Frank O'Kelly had taken action to make sure the toxic waste was cleared after residents reported barrels of highly toxic waste had been abandoned in Wood Lane, in his Cippenham Village Ward.

The barrels contained industrial-grade ally wheel stripping chemicals, containing hazardous substances. They had been left in roadside vegetation near the public highway. The barrels were marked with symbols indicating they were highly toxic and corrosive.

Cllr O'Kelly was quoted in The Observer as saying “this is a calculated act of commercial waste abandonment that shows a complete disregard for the safety of Cippenham Village residents and our local environment.”

Cllr O'Kelly immediately reported the issue to Slough Borough Council and the Council's Environmental Team cleared the mess before any further harm was done.
